Sarah's Treatments

Here is a list of treatments and things we have tried out to aid Sarah's recovery

Chemo ECX Regime

ECX is named after the initials of the chemotherapy drugs used, which are

Epirubicin Administered intravenously once every 3 weeks
Cisplatin Administered intravenously once every 3 weeks
Capecitabine also known as Xeloda® Taken in tablet form every day

Starting from July 2007, Sarah had 2 cycles (i.e. 6 weeks) of these drugs before the Cisplatin started to cause her Tinnitus (ringing of the ears), which carried a risk of becoming permanent, so then Sarah was swapped to another platinum based drug called :

Oxaliplatin Administered intravenously once every 3 weeks

Sarah continued with Epirubicin, Capecitabine and Oxaliplatin for a further 8 cycles, finishing in January 2007

Reflexology

Administered weekly by my mother, which Sarah found relaxing if anything.

Homeopathy

Diet

Having read a number of books on diet we mainly cut out :
sugar
Caffeine
Red meat (in fact all meat for a while)
Most dairy products

We tried the whole vegan thing to detox for a while. We also increased our intake of fruit and veg (mainly organic). Also leading up to the operation, Sarah had a fresh home made smoothie every day, plus carrot juice (with ginger and apple juice). Having detoxed, Sarah now eats some meat and dairy, and still tries to eat lost of veg and avoids red meat.

And Sarah's favourite...Pau D'Arco Tea! (theres some pretty big claims about its effects on cancer, so why the heck not try it!)

Meditation

Only one session of this at an evening class, good idea, but not in our area where its a crazy woman running the session!

Visulisations

Focusing on the cancer most nights, imagining it being chewed away and disappearing. Recommended by some "alternative" doctors
